Pathways
Training With A Purpose
For generations people have turned to combat sports and martial arts as a form of personal development. It’s accessible and inclusive in ways that many other sports are not. In a fight gym there are no classes, tax brackets, races, gender or religion. Men & Women from all walks of life and all ages train side by side, and everyone has their own reason for learning.
People choose TFC because our learning pathways are clearly laid out, and our vision remains to build and maintain a room full of champions, that means everyone is treated equally and provided equal opportunity.
We have 3 main pathways:
- TFC Fight Team (and BJJ competition teams)
- Grading in BJJ & Muay Thai
- TFC Fight Camp (in-house training camp & exhibition fight night event)
Fighter Pathway
TFC Fight Team
While most gyms separate their fight team training from their general class training, at TFC we all learn together. This is because our main objective is to teach people how to fight.
The TFC Fight Team trains in the evening program, they learn the same techniques that are being taught to our general class, with slight adjustments necessary for strategy, as well as additional conditioning after class.
With this in mind the Fighter Pathway looks like:
- Holding an active TFC membership.
- Consistent training pattern of 3 to 4 times per week in the evening classes – 5pm onwards, including sparring on Wednesday nights.
- You have made Team TFC aware that your goal is to join the fight team. You can register your interest on the form below.
- You are invited to join the fight team for training sessions. Your training load increases, and you’re accountable to the team. (We find that this is where most people drop off. Unable to maintain consistency for an extended period.)
- Coaches work with you directly to match you for fights.
How long does it take?
The length of time it take you to start fighting is dependent on a few key factors. Outside of your own commitment and consistency to training, things like finding matches at your experience level and weight division can also impact this timeline.
As a general rule no one should expect to start as a beginner and get in the ring within their first 6 months of training. A typical timeline is approximately 12 – 18 months.
You can fast track this by entering a TFC Fight Camp, or competing in BJJ.

Fight Team Expression Of Interest
Your registration ensures that coaches and staff will monitor your attendance and progress, and invite you to train with the fighters when suitable.
Grading
Grading is a way to track, document and recognise the process, of your progress. Martial Arts students work towards mastery from day one. Long after the lights are out and titles have been passed the grades that you earn along the way and the skills that come with them do not disappear.
At TFC your progress is tracked from day one, and as soon as you attend a Grading eligible class – Muay Thai, BJJ or Kids/Teens Striking, you are enrolled in our grading program. Even if you leave and come back years later, your grade still stands.
TFC BJJ Grading follows the traditional and universal Brazilian Jiu Jitsu belt system, while in Muay Thai (which does not have a universal system) we have developed our own grading system, commemorated in singlets and stripes.
Grading Questions?
- Grading events happen twice a year – mid year & end of year.
- Grading is covered in the cost of your TFC membership.
- Kids grade in striking and Kids BJJ, and progress into the adult grading around 14yrs old.
- All members can see their current grade in their member app.
- Grading is awarded based on training consistency, commitment and contribution.
TFC Fight Camp
TFC Fight Camp is our signature in-house training camp and exhibition Fight Night Event. It offers a pathway to the ring that might otherwise be out of reach for many.
Additionally, it has offered others the opportunity to fast track their way into the TFC Fight Team, by proving their commitment to training during camp, and their attitude and mindset in competition. A number of our current fighters and champions, came through TFC Fight Camp.
Applications for TFC Fight Camp happen once a year, and all participants must have been training at TFC for a minimum of 3 months prior, showing a consistency in their training pattern, of at least 2 -3 classes every week.
