Muay Thai For Ages 12yrs to 14yrs

Our Teens Muay Thai classes are designed to teach the foundations of Muay Thai, before progressing teens into our open adults classes.

In this sense, the teens classes can be considered a transition pathway, where kids who can competently demonstrate their ability to defend themselves effectively using Muay Thai, and who may wish to work their way towards active competition, can prepare themselves to train in the open age classes.

Teens Muay Thai is taught by some of our highest level Muay Thai coaches as part of our Teens striking program, and these classes support young adults to feel confident in the larger TFC community.

What your teen will learn in Teens Muay Thai Classes

  • Striking techniques using all eight limbs (punches, kicks, knees, and elbows)
  • Defensive moves to avoid strikes
  • Strength and conditioning drills
  • Mental discipline and respect for martial arts
  • Traditional Muay Thai rituals

Muay Thai helps teens build physical and mental toughness, along with the confidence to defend themselves if necessary.

Whether for competition or personal growth, our Teens Muay Thai class is designed to push them to their best.

If you are a parent concerned about your teens safety as they enter high school, or approach a more independent age, then facilitating this 3rd space of learning for them is highly beneficial.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a teens Muay Thai class like?

Teens Muay Thai at TFC is an hour long class.  Students are expected to be on the mat ready to go at 4pm to bow into class.

Being ready means you are in clean, fresh training clothes (no school or work uniforms).  You have clean, bare feet and your training bag and shoes are stored away in the bag bays.

You should have your required equipment for class on the edge of the mats, or behind the boxing bags, ready to go for when your coach tells you it’s time to put them on – Boxing gloves, Shin guards, and if it’s a sparring day you’ll also need your mouthguard (sparring is optional).

The class structure itself will include:

– Bowing in

– Structured warm up

– Guided instruction from your coaches for partner drills, bag drills, kick pads, mitts or a combination of all of the above

– You’ll be instructed and corrected if needed throughout the teaching of the technique

– You’ll bow out of class at the end

This is a loose guideline, and specific drills change from day to day and week to week with the curriculum.

Do I have to fight if I train Muay Thai?

Fighting is always optional and self nominated.  Unless you tell us you want to train to compete, we will not suggest that you start fighting.  It’s a big commitment, and we don’t want teens to feel any pressure to jump in the ring or cage.

If fighting is something you want to explore or pursue down the track, you can train Muay Thai in the teens classes, move up to train in the adults classes, and join in with larger sparring events, slowly you’ll figure out on your own if you want to give competing a go.

If/when you decide, be sure to let one of the TFC coaches/staff know.  You can learn more about the training pathways here.

What are the benefits for teens?

Having a 3rd space, outside of school and home that they can can make their own can be super helpful for teenagers as they grow into an identity that best serves their personal goals and potential.

Of course, their physical health will improve with fitness and mind/body connection, helping to support their self confidence, discipline, and the coping mechanisms they use for stress relief.

When can teens progress into adult Muay Thai classes?

Many teens move into the adults classes fairly quickly from 14yrs and up, but lots of these kids will still come and train in the teens as well, taking comfort from building a community within their own peer group.

Teens classes are best suited to ages 12yrs – 16yrs max.

What equipment do I need for Teens Muay Thai?
