Martial Arts for Beginners

Train beginner Boxing, beginner Muay Thai, beginner BJJ and even beginner MMA at TFC.  All of our classes and curriculum across our timetable are designed to cater to all levels.  We do this by utilising the matted floor space in our gym to separate by skill level, and assign the right trainers to teach each level.

Our specialised trainers for beginners support you to fail fast and learn faster.  With specialised drills to teach all the key foundational skills for each sport, they can easily adapt the class content to suit.

And when you’re ready to progress from the beginner side to the next level, they’ll let you know that too.

Frequently Asked Questions

What class is best for beginners?

We encourage you to focus on what you want to learn and achieve rather than focusing on any possible limitations.  Leave the teaching up to us, we’ll make sure that you learn what you came to learn.  So pick the sport you want to start with and take it from there.

Do I need to be fit before starting?

Absolutely not, no, not at all, no again 🙂 .

There are so many different kinds of ‘fit’, and when it comes to fighting, combat sports or any traditional martial arts, even the most conditioned track athlete is often unprepared for the type of fitness required when you need to attack and defend all at the same time.

It’s just a different type of fitness that you won’t achieve without getting started and building it up slowly.

Is this suitable if I feel nervous starting?

Almost everyone feels nervous when they visit us for the first time, even if they’ve trained before.  Walking into somewhere new can often trigger the nerves.  If you wait until you’re not nervous, you’ll never start.  TFC is a supportive and welcoming environment, and to help with your nerves we do our best to let you know exactly what’s happening at all times, and that you always have one of our staff on site looking after you on your first session.

Can I do other classes later no matter what class I start with?

For sure!  You’re not tied into learning any one sport, and we encourage you to mix up your training based on your own personal goals – whether that’s fitness, fat loss, self defence, confidence or the million other things that people come to train for.
