Location/Facility questions

Where are you based?

1 – 3 Meakin rd Meadowbrook, at the end of the cul-de-sac on the left.  Just around the corner from Logan Hospital.  You can find directions here.

Do you have more than one location?

Our purpose built facility in Meadowbrook (Logan) is the only location we have.  We are proudly local family owned and operated.

Do you have parking on site?

Plenty of parking!  We have over 30+ onsite car parks, and ample free street parking to choose from.

Is there a bus/train stop nearby?

The closest stop to us is Loganlea station. It is about a 20min walk to get from the station to the gym – the perfect warmup!

Do you have showers on site?

We have fresh, clean, modern bathrooms, for both male and female.

Our showers are fitted with private change cubicles, and general toiletries – body wash, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant and female menstruation products.

Do you have a weights area?

We have a designated area equipped with everything you’d need to get a solid strength and conditioning session in. This is a basic set up but has everything you need.  We have squat racks, kettlebells, slant board, and assault bikes.

Can I use the gym whenever I want/ do I have to do the class when I’m in the gym?

We are a learning/coaching based gym.  You should check with the staff onsite before using the facilities while classes are running.

It’s generally accepted, but please be mindful that some equipment may not be available depending on what the class is using, or how busy the mat space is at the time.

Common questions before the free trial:

Do I need to have experience to train?

No experience necessary, everybody has a different start line!

Our classes cater for all levels of experience from beginner to professional.  You can read about our Adult Class Structure Here.

Do I need to be fit to start?

We welcome people of all fitness levels. You don’t need to be in peak physical condition to get started.

Martial arts/Combat sports training itself will help improve your strength, flexibility, and endurance over time. In fact, starting at any level is a great way to build your fitness and skill progressively!

If you’re concerned about your current fitness level, talk to the instructor ahead of time so they can guide you on how to pace yourself during the classes.

They’ll likely be able to offer modifications to accommodate your needs while still challenging you.

Remember, consistency is key to improvement.

What should I wear?

We don’t have any specific uniform that you’ll need to wear in your first class. The best thing to wear is something comfortable that lets you move freely, and that you don’t mind working up a sweat in!

When you train BJJ or MMA you should not wear anything with zippers or buttons.

In regards to footwear, barefoot is best!

You must have clean feet on the mats at all times.  So it’s best to wear slides or thongs into the gym, and then remove them before getting on the mats.

You must also pop your footwear back on to use the bathroom.

Boxing or wrestling boots that have not been worn outside the gym are also acceptable.

What do I need to bring?

The only thing you’ll need to bring is a water bottle and a towel (and of course yourself!)

We provide all the equipment needed for your first class – gloves and/or shinguards.

Hand wraps are mandatory for ADULT Boxing or Muay Thai, so if you don’t have your own you can purchase them in the gym for $15.

If you are trialling in BJJ or MMA you won’t need any equipment at all.

What equipment will I need?

If you have gear such as Boxing Gloves or Muay Thai/Kickboxing Shin pads feel free to bring them along.

However, any gear you don’t have you’ll be able to borrow from us for your free trial class.

If you do wish to continue training with us you will need to have your own equipment.  You can build this up over time, starting with just Boxing gloves you’re looking at around $60 – $80.

Progressing into a fully equipped training bag with all the equipment you need, this will cost just under $300 for adults and $150 for kids – (approximately, depending on your personal choices).

You can source your equipment from any sports store, but we also sell all the gear you need in our own onsite retail shop.

When you buy equipment from us on the day you sign up you receive a 20% discount.

If you’re not able to buy on day 1, we do offer a 15% discount in your first 7 days.

Who do I speak to on my first day?

When you first enter the gym one of our team members will be at the front desk to greet you.

As long as you have booked in for your trial class, they will be expecting you, at least 10-15 minutes before the class starts.

Our staff will help get everything sorted for you, completing a health & safety waiver is the first step, and then equipment and a quick tour of the gym.

Once your class is about to start, they’ll introduce you to your trainer who will look after you from there.

Class/ Training Questions:

What times are your classes?

We have classes running throughout the entire day. The easiest way to make sure our schedule works for you is to check out our full schedule here:

What classes do you offer?

We offer classes for Boxing, Muay Thai, BJJ and MMA.

Can I train more than one sport??

Our memberships include unlimited access to all of our classes.

So one day you could train Boxing and BJJ, and that evening or the next day you might choose to train Muay Thai.

This helps to keep training flexible and exciting!

Can I train more than once a day?

Of course you can! Just make sure to stay hydrated (especially in the warmer months!)

What is the experience of your trainers?

All of our trainers have either fought professionally in the past or are still actively fighting.

Most have both local and international experience.

In addition to that all of our trainers are taught how to teach for different learning styles and skill levels, both in a group setting and one on one.

Our Head Coach, Ben Johnston is a 2x World Muay Thai Champion and former Eternal MMA middleweight champion.

Can you help me get into competition?

Most definitely! If competing is something you wish to do (whether in Boxing, Muay Thai, MMA or BJJ) we have the pathways and guidance to help get you there.

However, it all comes down to how important it is to you.

If you’re willing to put in the time and effort to get comp ready, we have the resources to get you into your first fight.

How long will it take for me to have my first fight?

There’s a lot of factors that go into answering this question.

Your consistency, attitude and skill level all play a factor.

Combat sports takes time, and the more reps you can get in, the less time it’ll take.

A general guideline for a person who meets all the pre requisites is roughly 6-12 months.

However, we have an in-house pathway where you can test the waters and fight as part of a TFC Fight Camp in a exhibition match, OR you can compete in BJJ competitions within 3 months.

Can I still train with you if I’m just wanting to get fit?

For sure!  There’s a reason why Boxers, Thai fighters, and MMA athletes are in such good shape… it comes with the territory!

So instead of running on the ‘dreadmill’, you can learn a life long skill and get fit in the process.

Do I have to want to be a fighter to train with you?

Not at all! While we treat everyone who comes through our doors as if they want to be a fighter (which allows us to emphasise technique and skill progression) you don’t have to step into the ring to train with us.

The majority of our members train as a hobby, for fitness or self defence, building confidence, or maintaining discipline in their life choices.

Kids/Teens classes Questions:

What is the age range for the kids classes?

Our kids classes start from 6yo to 12yo.

Between 10-12yo we begin to move kids up into the teens classes, and prepare them to train in the adults program.

From 12 years and up kids can then choose to train in the teens only classes or the open classes with the adults.

What is the age range for the teens classes?

Our teens classes start from 12yo to 16yo.

However, depending on your child’s size and skill level, they may be able to train in the adults classes right away if that’s something they’re comfortable doing.

What kids/teens classes do you offer?

We offer kids/teens classes for boxing, Muay Thai, and BJJ.

Our kids and teens program is designed to give students a solid foundation of combat sports.

We teach all round ‘striking’ for the stand up sports of Boxing & Muay Thai, alternating the focus between the two throughout the week.

In BJJ they learn a wrestling style as well as traditional Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Kids/Teens can choose what to train day to day, either ‘striking’ or ‘BJJ’.

Our main goal is to help support a healthy learning environment where kids/teens feel safe to learn and grow from their mistakes, build confidence, and develop a love for combat sports.

What times do the kids/teens classes start?

You can check out our full kids/teens schedule here:

I’m worried my kid will learn how to fight and then get into trouble at school, will this happen?

It’s completely understandable to be concerned about how learning self-defense or fighting techniques might impact your child, especially in a school setting.

It’s important to consider the context in which your child is learning these skills.

At TFC kids will learn discipline, respect, self-control, and conflict resolution as much as physical techniques.

The goal is not to encourage fighting, but to provide your child with the confidence and tools to de-escalate situations before they turn physical.

Will this help stop my child from getting bullied?

Learning martial arts can provide your child with the skills needed to protect themselves – but more importantly it builds confidence, which is the most important thing when it comes to the prevention of bullying.

Bullying thrives on situations where the child feels insecure or isolated.

Through martial arts children not only build confidence, but also assertiveness and emotional intelligence.
