TFC Weekly Member Update ~ June 30th to July 6th 2025
4 July 2025
It’s official, we’re halfway through 2025 and this weekend is our big Mid-Year grading day, but not before we see 3 of our amateur MMA guys on the Beatdown card this Saturday night over at Eaton’s Hill.
Nakia (Melody) sent a message to our work chat last night reminding us that this weekend’s mid-year grading event is a 10 year grading anniversary (since we are celebrating 10 years of TFC for all of 2025). He’s good at things like that, all things community, and reminding us about all the little things, and all the things that matter.
It made me think of all the members at TFC who might not feel comfortable coming to the event on Sunday, so if that’s you, I’ve written a little bit about why you should be there, keep reading to check it out!
Also in Episode 4 of our weekly member update Jarvie models some of our new 10 year apparel, we announce one of our staff members leaving, and we go over fight results from last weekend, plus a quick update on the guys who are fighting THIS weekend.
Watch, listen or read to stay up to date with everything TFC!

Why You Should Come To Mid-Year Grading
Are you coming to the Mid-Year Grading event?
If you’re sitting there and you’re anything like me and not always super keen to attend a social event with so many people you don’t know, I’m telling you – I get it and I feel you.
I am in fact one of those people who say they feel like they never fit in anywhere. I think it’s symptomatic of being the ‘black sheep’ of the family, and even among so much love at TFC, there are many moments where I still don’t feel like I fit in – and if I feel that way, I’m sure there are some of you who feel the same.
Look, we’re a combat sports gym, we’re not out here trying to save the world or try our hand at life coaching, but I do believe there is value in building community.
Community is all around us, we don’t have to be super involved in absolutely everything, because that would be daft and we’d never have time for anything else. My perspective is that some parts of our community behave like pillars. They help to stabilise other parts of life that can be challenging.
The cost of maintaining those parts of our community is that sometimes we have to get amongst it.
I watched a video this week, that pointed out the social theme of ‘the village’ – particularly since the pandemic. Many of us talk about the importance of a village, yet when we’re presented with opportunities to do village things, we avoid them, because maybe; like me, you can feel a little socially awkward at times.
But if the cost of building and maintaining community, is discomfort, then that’s a price I’m willing to pay. It’s worth it to the village, and in that worth, the discomfort transmutes into something the village needs – you.
The whole concept of a village is rooted in the idea that each person has their own inherent value, everyone has something to offer, and sometimes that’s just bringing your presence into the room. Even if you don’t have the capacity to feel how important you are from day to day, the village is less without you.
So come through to Mid-Year Grading, even if you aren’t grading, or you don’t train Muay Thai or BJJ, you can join in on the celebrations at the Meadowbrook Golf Club from 11:30am onwards.
So local you can’t say no!
